Abstract

Introduction: Suicide is a phenomenon of individual, cultural, social and familial factors. and religion, social integrity, being skilled against life problems, family supports, proper interactions between man and psychosocial health seems to be preventive factors. So because of high incidence of suicide in Ardal (a district of chaharmahal and bakhtiary province). this study was conducted to determine the effects of life- skills training on decreasing suicidal attempts in women of this area. Methods: This is a cross-sectional study on women of ardal district. 360 subjects were selected using a simple random selection method. A total number of 750 women received life- skill trainings by experts (at high schools and health care centers). Then educational evaluation was performed by self-made questionnaires (pre and post test). The data was analyzed by spss11 software with paired test and analysis of variance and correlation test. Results: There was significant difference (P. V= 0.001) between various jobs and educational status. Tukey test showed a significant difference between various jobs and others, also, between teaching staff (cultural jobs) and other jobs. Correlation test showed positive association between pre test, post test and age. Conclusion: Life skills training is effective on promoting knowledge and psychosocial health it is also a main factor in primary prevention of suicide commitments. It seems that continuous training aimed to promote knowledge, attitude and practice is effective. However this study did not deal with practice, so we suggest a following study later on to evaluate the outcomes of life-skill trainings in this district.
