Abstract

Abstract: Introduction & Objectives: One of the major responsibilities of nursing and midwifery schools is to make sure of high quality of education and maintaining it. This, of course, depends on assurance of the high quality of the constituting affiliated sections. The major part of education takes place in clinics. Clinical teaching is one of the most important areas of nursing education process. Accordingly, clinical teaching has overshadowed a goal number of nursing and midwifery research studies. Since the process of education, namely teaching and learning, are interdependent (teaching is the activities done by teachers the outcome of which is learning itself being related to learner or student. Therefore, a study of the effective clinical teacher characteristics is important form the perspectives of he students as well as the teachers. Methodology: This research was intended to compare the teachers' and students' perspectives regarding effective clinical teacher characteristics in triangulation method. The research was carried out in two phases using two groups of participants in the school of nursing and midwifery. All the volunteers (teachers and students) participated in the study in 1381. In the first stage, using the Delphi method along with interview with the teachers and students, a 56-item questionnaire was formulated with the five Simian "professional" "personal", "communicative", "teaching methods" and "evaluation" with 1 to 7 liker scale. In the second stage, using survey method, the students and teachers perspectives were designated using SPSS analysis. Results: The mean of the clinical teachers characteristics as viewed by students and teachers were 6.26 and SD 0.91. A mean of 6.15 and SD of 0.96 showed that students grades and teachers grades were 6.19 with SD of 0.48. the difference between the means was significant (P=0.009). The most important characteristic of effective clinical teachers as viewed by teachers and students was responsibility for one's own action. Discussion: Al the characteristics named in the questionnaire were approved by the teachers and students. Many of these characteristics were also found important in studies done by other researchers in-given by teachers was higher than the one by the students. It is recommended that teachers attend to this characteristics more.
