Abstract

Background and aims: The elderly tend to perform daily physical activity and exercise has reduced and this leads to an increase in obesity in this stratum of society. This study aimed to investigate interactive role of physical activity and body mass indices levels on cognitive function and psychological well-being of the elderly. Methods: The study is causal-comparative method. The subjects were 200 elderly women aged 60 years and above and the inclusion criteria were selected. The subjects completed demographic, cognitive function, psychological well-being and physical activity Champs questionnaires. Also, the height and weight of all the participants was assessed to determine the levels of body mass index. All data were analyzed using two-way ANOVA and Bonferroni post hoc test with using the software SPSS. Results: The results showed for Variable of cognitive function and psychological well-being were significant (P<0.05). Checking average showed between cognitive function and psychological well-being in elderly with different levels of body mass index in physical activity with high, medium and low levels is significant difference (P<0.05). Elderly people with high physical activity level and natural body mass index were most cognitive function and psychological well-being than their seniors. Alder adults with low physical activity level and normal body mass index have psychological well-being higher than elderly people with low physical activity levels and overweight and obese body mass index.
